The Inspiration Behind NAMOOSTE
Marlee’s oldest son Parker inspired her to write the story.
Marlee wrote Namooste back in 2017 when her oldest son Parker was two years old. The story introduced yoga and mindfulness to their bedtime routine, helping him transition between energetic playtime and calm relaxation before bedtime. Marlee is a passionate advocate for mental health awareness and is intentional about incorporating social emotional learning in all of her books. This is inspired by challenges her children have faced as well as her own struggles with anxiety and depression.
Marlee thinks a great book is relatable and creates a connection with the reader. She intends to plant a seed of emotional understanding and self-awareness in young readers. She hopes that NaMOOste‘s key messages of self-care, self-regulation, confidence, and resilience stay with readers long after the book is closed.
